Starting off with Bob Cooney’s Miracle, A secular loaves and fishes anti fascist vocal harmony folk song about scran while fighting Franco. Fania All stars with Viva Tirado next, a boogaloo/ salsa fusion, chicano pride anthem, about Tirado the bullfighter. Blending in over that, Walter Gibbons stunning mix of Set it off by Strafe from ‘84. Next a four song edit of Bill Conti’s Rocky soundtrack/cycle, the genius of which was brought to my attention by my brother andrew. Starts with with a solo horn , builds to victorious chorus. Perfect for those garden laps. Did it with a live Rocky ghost at a couple of gigs over the last six months. Hope to do some more cinema music themed pepper’s ghosts(victorian holograms) when this sci fi movie we’re living in moves on to the next act. Amazing cyborg manifesto flamenco vocal science from Rosario into some very enjoyable string processing/ boys noise from Tim hecker. Very oddly themed miami/cuban electro from Alpha6060 mixed with chrome country from Oneohtrix point never at 31:13 , really chuffed with the way the stings/ vox fx, in both harmonise. Meant to find a dance kick/mix for Chrome country for ages. Into a house/techno wedding party ad. Minimal house Ketamine anthem from Benoit and Sergio, quote – “My baby does k all day”. Then a restless leg techno/juke/electro section made from an extended version of the unplayed final ten minutes of my set from Open Ear three years ago. Starts with Americhord’s (Maura O’Boyle) Irish trance techno classic. Also chuffed with the mix of Hood’s Museum and Jlin’s Expand 54:50 and on from there into Ueno Masaaki’s Bound State etc. Then jamming a Carl Cox impression with the Orange theme and amphetamine, should practice this one. Finishing up with Momus’ bitterly funny tale of music biz failure.
