In the absense of a mash of the week(back on it soon), here’s a quality bundle of 10 tunes(320) from this is lucky me , Glaswegian label/management for the likes Hudson Mohawk, Irish boy done good, Mike Slott and Rustie. They play with other Glasgow hard nails at the Ballers social club ….. Enjoy the lazers, jazz kits and bleary synths and sit back and imagine you could pull off a mullet.

I’m off to the Electric picnic in morning to put on a venue called the Gramophone Disco.Having been there on Tuesday and Wednesday, I can relate to you that the site is in shite and it’s cold there. If your going bring warm clothes and wellies or waders or a boat…

This track catches the vibe of what we do there.
James Luther Dickinson- O How She Dances
[audio:/O%20How%20She%20Dances.mp3]This is what I said about it last year ————–
Hank Penny with String Band- Blood Shot Eyes
This tune being something of an anthem at a Gramophone disco thing I do with some pals.
Gramophone disco being an all night bar with a 78’s , normal records and a pre sixties music policy. The Gramophone disco has a nice carny feel with various diversions including-
Smash hits gramophone disco.
This is where the crowd listen to a record and vote whether to smash it or whether it’s a hit and a keepy. It’s fun for a various reasons
1. Smashing records(particularly brittle shellac) is very satisfying fun.
2. It has the added bonus of being a kind of anarchist history smashing theatre.
3. When I have a enough smashed 78’s, I’m going to make a time machine out of them.
4. It’s good to crate dig in public and share the pleasure of finding an unknown great record- makes a surprisingly good entertainment.
5. It’s a way of getting people to actually listen and pay attention to old 78’s.
6. It’s a good antidote to the whole po-faced worship of the past, old records etc.
We’re doing the Electric picnic this weekend so drop in if your around and here’s another 78/tune to listen to on the drive there.

Being a mash of Nosaj Thing – ‘Coat of Arms’ and Bounty Killer – ‘Murderer’
Eomac this week with a mash that manages to be tripped out and speaker shreddingly aggressive at the same time.

Back on the mash band wagon for the new year(still think in school terms)
This weeks mash comes from Solen who had my favourite Irish record of last year-Block/Lord. It’s classy stuff and you can tell they’ve been in Berlin over the summer.
Solen-Oh Superman it is so Simply Plastic Star Sora

It’s a mash of Laurie Anderson’s Superman(one of my fav tunes to mash) and Donnacha Costello/Byetone/AlvaNoto
Here’s the cover of their last single an amazing image of the Dublin’s Ballymun flats.

Six foot apprentice and I are warming up for Herv and The Vinny club at the launch of their split single on Richter Collective tonight. Herv’s sets have been blowing me away, with a warm detroit motor soul infusing his patented brew of idm and breakcore.
The Vinny club is famed for putting on a great show with super mario guitar hero antics in his live sets.
The first 200 get a copy of the single.

Yardcasting

Interesting-
from Bok Bok over at lower end spasm
Several weeks ago DJ Oneman started streaming live sets from his bedroom at www.ustream.tv/channel/yard-sessions. With little or no prior notice he would hit the stream button and jump in the mix, only after announcing it on Twitter of course. Oneman coined the term “yardsessions” for these broadcasts, and when I saw that I knew he was on to something.
I had to borrow the idea from him.
So – a yardcast is a spontaneous home/studio broadcast. It’s is a phase-shift in braodcasting, what the emergence of interent radio was to FM stations.
But unlike the (relatively!) clockwork rotas of Rinse and Sub FM, the yardcast format is less like a radio show and more like a live event. It may be dissembodied, but what the ‘event’ of the yardcast loses in physicality it gains in universal accesiblity. We’re not limited by budgets, venue curfews, commercial concerns or geographic location. Everyone can join in this party.
Unlike the institutional regidity of station broadcasts, a yardcast slots perfectly alongside tweets and status updates into the real-time continuous, ongoing stream of discourse.
That’s the pompous, but nontheless important part over.
The rest is a big all-day party you’re all invited to.

and here‘s the 32o- been around awhile like it’s (well programmed) dumbness, I’m feeling the need for more and more good dumb music these days as an antidote to all the suburban dutch dubstep and the like around. When a genre gets ‘slick’ run the other way. Intelligent drum and bass anyone? Oh yeah, forgive the lack of mashes, shows, proper posts etc. I’m away a lot, gigging, working, holidaying… coming to an end in about a month and normal transmission will be resumed.
