Laurie introducing. Tito Puente being a boss(as usual) at exotica at the start, into the uilleann pipe sounding bit from Terry Reilly’s  A Rainbow in Curved Air. Socialist synth pop from Robert Wyatt. Pat Kenny pleading with the Venezuelan generals to intervene and overthrow the elected government. Red Astaire sampling Tito into Herp alpert’s sunshine version of Popcorn. An extraordinary bootleg of Tito backing Celia Cruz,  live in the Apollo. Kid Creole (August Darnell) and the Coconuts’ mambo disco tale of Bronx strife mixed with DJ Nigga Fox KRK . Francis Bebey reminding us that it’s not a crocodile. Momus getting turned on by jealousy and infidelity in The Hairstyle of the Devil (possibly my fav track title).  Dj Rush being super fun, camp and sleazy in a classic mixtape intro. Sterac, slick as with Asphyx( originally mislabeled and should have been X-track) into O.R.N. Snow. Indie Goth stylings now and then from the Misty’s and Cranes. Lee Scratch talking voodoo about N.W.O and Ministry thrashing about it. Irish punk and anti folk from Shitthat and the Deadlians, Brooklyn/Us punk from Body Talk, The Replacements, Wat Tyler - Din Daa Daa!!!!

PCPRadio The Northern Sound! 2 Feb 08

raggety boy

This week show is mostly techno from Scotland and the north of England, from the mid to late nineties. Weird bass, spidery clicking rhythms, lost processed voices. It was for me the most interesting techno of the period. it feels somehow current again. a lot of it could slip unnoticed into a dubstep set at the moment. I’ll write more and fix up the track list later.
